How to write a beautician CV

Professional summary

Say which treatments you do on your own, how many years you have worked and where: a salon, a clinic, a spa. Add something that sets you apart, such as regular clients, a speciality or product sales.

Beauty school graduate with a placement in a beauty salon. I do gel manicures, brow tinting and basic facial treatments. I want to grow in facial treatments.

Experience: duties and achievements

Name the treatments and show the scale of your work: how many clients a day, how many regulars, what share of sales. Add hygiene and sterilisation, because they matter to the salon owner and to clients.

Weaker: Beauty treatments.

Better: Cleansing, peels and facial massage, gel manicures, brow tinting.

Weaker: Working with clients.

Better: A regular group of over 80 clients who book their next visits.

Weaker: Selling cosmetics.

Better: Advising on home skincare and selling products, about 15% of the salon's turnover.

Skills worth listing

Separate treatments and equipment from people skills. Clients come back not only for the results, but also for the atmosphere and a good conversation.

Professional skills

  • Cleansing and hydrating treatments
  • Peels and facial massage
  • Manicure, pedicure, gel polish
  • Brow tinting, shaping and lamination
  • Waxing
  • Sterilisation and hygiene in the treatment room

Personal skills

  • Client care and advice
  • Accuracy and an eye for detail
  • Patience
  • Discretion
  • Keeping the treatment room looking good

Courses and training

In this job, courses show that you keep developing. List them with the year, starting with the most recent and advanced. Training from professional cosmetics brands counts too.

Beautician CV with no experience

Describe school placements, treatments done on models and courses. Add photos of your work in a portfolio, for example a link to a profile with your results.

Say which treatments you do on your own and which you want to learn. Many salons hire graduates and train them on the job.

Tailoring your CV to the job offer

A beauty salon looks for a wide range of treatments and sales, a hotel spa for relaxing treatments and languages, and a specialist clinic for a specific speciality. Move the treatments the job ad asks for to the top.

The most common mistakes on a beautician CV

Questions and answers

What should a beautician put on a CV?

The treatments you do on your own, workplaces, number of clients, courses with dates, product sales, languages and a link to your portfolio.

How is a beautician CV different from a cosmetologist CV?

In Poland a cosmetologist usually has a university degree and does more advanced treatments. On a beautician CV, beauty school, courses and salon practice matter most.

Should I add photos of my work to a beautician CV?

Do not paste them into the CV. It is better to add a link to a portfolio or a profile with your work.
