How to write a category C+E driver CV

Professional summary

In the first sentences, give your licence categories, years of experience in international transport, countries and trailer types. Add the rotation that suits you. This is the most important information for the planner and the company owner.

Category C+E driver with 4 years of experience on routes to Germany and the Czech Republic, with tarpaulin and curtainsider trailers. I have code 95, a tachograph card and ADR. I am looking for a weekly rotation, home at weekends.

Experience: duties and achievements

Describe the routes, countries, mileage and type of load. Say whether you have done cabotage, carried dangerous goods or driven a reefer with temperature control. Add duties beyond driving, such as paperwork, contact with the planner and unloading.

Weaker: Driving around Europe.

Better: Routes between Poland, Germany, France and the Benelux, about 11,000 km a month, reefer.

Weaker: Watching my driving hours.

Better: Planning breaks and rest periods in line with the rules, with no remarks in tachograph checks.

Weaker: Unloading.

Better: Unloading building materials with a truck-mounted crane (HDS) on building sites.

Skills worth listing

Under professional skills, list what every haulier checks: vehicle combinations, the tachograph, paperwork and securing loads. Under personal skills, list what lets you work calmly far from home.

Professional skills

  • Tractor unit with a trailer
  • Digital tachograph
  • Driving and rest time rules
  • CMR and transport documents
  • Securing and distributing loads
  • Operating a reefer unit

Personal skills

  • Working independently on the road
  • Staying calm in difficult road conditions
  • Good communication with the planner
  • Responsibility for the load and the vehicle
  • Punctuality at loading points

Professional driver licences

In this job, licences decide whether you are invited to an interview, so list them in a separate section with their expiry dates. The most important are the category C+E licence, code 95 (driver CPC), the tachograph card and, for dangerous goods, ADR with its classes. If you have a licence for a truck-mounted crane or a forklift, add it too.

C+E driver CV with no international experience

If your licence is new, describe the course, the initial qualification and any time you have spent driving a lorry, for example in domestic transport or as a category C driver. Add any language skills, even basic ones.

Many companies hire drivers with no international experience, starting them on domestic routes or with a driver trainer. Say that you are ready for this and give the rotation that suits you.

Tailoring your CV to the job offer

A company with reefers looks for experience with temperature control and paperwork, a building materials haulier for crane unloading, and a cabotage company for long trips and language skills. Move what the job ad asks for to the top.
