Education and care
Nanny and childcare worker CV: example and template
This example is for childcare workers at nurseries and children's clubs, nannies working for families and people who want to start working with young children, including after their own experience as a parent.
Parents and nursery managers want to know the age of the children you work with, what your day with a child looks like, whether you have a first aid course and whether you can give references. We show you how to describe this on your CV.
How to write a nanny CV
Professional summary
Write how long you have worked with children, of which age and where: at a nursery, a children's club or for families. Add your qualifications and first aid course, because parents and managers ask about them first. It is worth mentioning references already in the summary.
Education student with 2 years of experience as a nanny for two children aged 2 and 5. I collect the children from preschool, prepare meals and organise play. I have a first aid course and a reference from the family.
Experience: duties and achievements
Describe the age and number of children and the scope of care: meals, sleep, hygiene, play, walks. Show that you talk to parents and look after the child's development, not only keep an eye on them. With families, give how long you worked there, because long employment shows trust.
Weaker: Looking after children.
Better: Caring for a group of 8 children aged 1 to 2 together with a second carer.
Weaker: Playing with children.
Better: Play that develops movement, speech and independence.
Weaker: Cooking.
Better: Preparing meals for children and introducing solids as the parents asked.
Skills worth listing
List the scope of care and developmental skills. In your soft skills show patience, calm and responsibility, because parents trust you with what is most precious to them.

Qualifications
List a childcare worker diploma, an education degree or a course that qualifies you to work at a nursery, and a current first aid course. For work with children the employer also checks criminal records, so have the certificate ready.
Nanny CV with no experience
Describe looking after children in your family, volunteering at an after-school club or work at summer camps. If you have children of your own, you can write about it in one short sentence in your summary.
Take a paediatric first aid course and put it on your CV. For parents this often matters more than years of experience.
Tailoring your CV to the job offer
A nursery looks for qualifications and group work, a family looking for a nanny for availability, trust and references, and a children's club for developmental play and contact with parents. Move to the top what the job ad is about, and when working for a family add the hours you can work.
Questions and answers
What should a childcare worker put on a CV?
The age of the children, the workplace, the scope of care, developmental play, qualifications, a first aid course, references and availability.
Does a nanny need qualifications?
They are not required for work with a family, but a first aid course and references help a lot. At a nursery the rules set out the qualifications.
Can you become a nanny with no experience?
Yes. On your CV show looking after children in your family, volunteering and a first aid course.
Should I write on my CV that I have children?
You can, briefly in the summary, if you want to. It is your decision and you do not have to mention it.
