Want remote work? Your CV needs more than the word ‘remote’
A quiet workspace and a reliable connection matter, but they do not explain how you work with people you rarely meet. When applying for remote work, the useful story is what happens between receiving a task and handing over the result. Your CV can make that story easier to see.
Start with the role, then the location
Remote describes an arrangement, not a profession. Customer support, software development and bookkeeping call for different evidence. Read the responsibilities before focusing on the location label. Also check any stated country, time-zone or office-attendance requirements. A role described as remote may still expect applicants to work within a particular region or schedule.
Build your search around a skill you can demonstrate and the conditions you can meet. Someone handling support tickets should emphasise clear responses and sensible escalation. A developer may need to explain code reviews and documentation. The CV Majster remote-work guide is a useful place to continue planning that application.
Replace personality claims with working examples
Independent and communicative sound positive, but they leave questions unanswered. Consider a real example of how you reported progress, recorded a decision or asked for help before a deadline slipped. Those actions make the words more concrete. Experience from office work, study or volunteering can be relevant when the example is described honestly.
List collaboration tools only when you have actually used them. Knowing where a chat button is differs from coordinating a handover across shifts. Explain the task behind the tool: maintaining a shared issue log, preparing written instructions or scheduling customer follow-ups. The work gives the software name context and gives you an example to discuss.
Check that the document and conversation agree
Before applying, open the final file and read it as someone meeting you for the first time. Can they find your core skill, recent experience and contact details quickly? Remove outdated links and unexplained abbreviations. If you include a portfolio, make sure it opens without requesting access and shows work you are allowed to share.
Prepare one brief story about a problem you handled without constant supervision and another about a moment when you needed input. Remote collaboration involves both. Your CV does not need to contain every detail, but it should point towards examples you can explain clearly when the employer asks how you would work with the team.
