How to write a production worker CV

Professional summary

Say which industry and which machines you work with, for how many years and on what shift system. Add whether you know quality control, changeovers or lean principles. The shift manager wants to know quickly which workstation they can put you on.

Production worker with 2 years of experience in a food plant. I operate a packing machine and check the quality of packaging and batch labels. I work in a three-shift system and have a valid sanitary and epidemiological certificate.

Experience: duties and achievements

List the machines, products and tasks at your workstation. Meeting targets, no complaints caused by you and taking part in improvements work very well. Include work through a temporary employment agency too: give the plant you worked in.

Weaker: Working on a production line.

Better: Operating welders on a car body parts line, meeting the target at 105%.

Weaker: Checking products.

Better: First-article inspection with a caliper and a micrometer, reporting nonconformities to the quality department.

Weaker: Taking part in training.

Better: Taking part in 5S workshops after which changeover time dropped by 10 minutes.

Skills worth listing

In production, employers look at specific skills and licences. List the types of machines and measuring tools you know.

Professional skills

  • Operating machines and production lines
  • Changing over and setting up machines
  • Quality control and measuring tools
  • Reading technical drawings and instructions
  • 5S, lean, health and safety
  • Operating a forklift

Personal skills

  • Accuracy and consistency
  • Responsibility for quality
  • Teamwork
  • Ready to work shifts
  • Learning new workstations quickly

Licences and certificates

UDT forklift licences, training on specific machines and a valid sanitary and epidemiological certificate (in food plants) are assets worth listing separately.

Production worker CV with no experience

People with no experience are often hired for production work. Write about casual jobs, placements at a technical school, physical work and that you are ready to work shifts.

Emphasize accuracy, punctuality and that you learn quickly. Add your driving licence and that you can commute to the plant.

Tailoring your CV to the job offer

A food plant requires a sanitary and epidemiological certificate and hygiene, automotive requires quality control and accuracy, electronics requires precision and working with small parts. Order your skills to fit the plant in the job ad.

Plants and workstations, the machines you operate, quality control, licences, the shift system and your availability. One page is enough.

How do you put agency work on a CV?

Give the job title, the plant you worked in and the period of work. You can add that you were employed through a temporary employment agency.

Do you need a CV for production work?
